In 2002, the District established the Bangor Water District Peter A. Lancaster Scholarship.  This award, named in honor of BWD’s late construction supervisor, is funded through tax-deductible contributions from employees, individuals, and businesses.

A 501(c)(3) tax-deductible charity, the scholarship provides funds for post-high school education.  Eligible students must reside within the District’s service area – Bangor, Clifton, Eddington, Hampden, Hermon, Orrington, or Veazie.

Each year since 2003, two $1,000 scholarships have been awarded.  Recipients have been graduates of Bangor High School, Brewer High School, Hermon High School, and John Bapst Memorial High School, and have gone on to attend the University of                  Maine, Maine Maritime Academy, Duke University, Tulane University, Colby, Husson, and Stonehill College.

In 2009, the scholarships were awarded to two students one attending Bangor High School and the other John Bapst Memorial High School.

Questions about the fund should be directed to scholarship board president Kathy Moriarty at 947-4516.
